“OPEN THE DOOR AND LET THE MAGIC IN” | City Palace Jaipur

Lotus Gate, City Palace Jaipur

City Palace Jaipur

City Palace Jaipur – I have been fortunate enough to visit Jaipur on a number of occasions, both as a traveller and as a tourist. When I recently got an opportunity to revisit the city, I decided to spend much of time photo documenting the Amer Fort, City Palace Jaipur and some other important places. These beautiful palaces and their structures fascinated me very much. They represented a vivid bygone era, which is impossible to replicate in this age.

But while exploring these landmarks, I noticed that many of their doorways were singular in character. Be it those imposing gateways with intricate frescoes at the entrance or the smaller, nondescript doors inside the palaces. Each had a role to play and a story to tell. In City Palace Jaipur, they reflected the influence of Mughal, European and Indian Shilpa Shastra styles. Whereas in the Amer Fort it was the Hindu Rajput style.

As a candid scribbler and a shutterbug, I was particularly interested in the influence of royal culture in the society and its people. The Mughal and Rajput influences shine through not just in the city’s architecture but also in the art, cuisine and more.

I began my retro journey from the mighty and beautiful City Palace Jaipur which is situated at the heart of the city. I documented its royal past by capturing the allure of its doorways.

Incidentally, This snapshot was captured of a very enchanting Lotus gate which in a way, was also my first attempt to explore the magnificent Palace and this historic city.
