Places to visit in Delhi – I have often wondered what it is an old building can do to you when you happen to know a little about things that went on long ago in that building.

As happens generally, when we enter the vicinity of a place, its aura seems to encircle us with its allure and we tend to feel calm and captivated.

It is that ambience that compel us to imagine the timelessness of that bygone era. Our fascination seems to be at work that we start visualising about the foregone dynasty, the place, its kings, its community and about the whole era.

Being at any historical landmark has always been an awe-inspiring experience for those seeking the greatness of these ancient cultures.

Incidentally, this photo is of the mighty Humayun’s tomb in New Delhi, India. It is an outstanding archetype of the great Mughal architecture. Its unique beauty has inspired several major architectural innovations including the great Taj Mahal. This magnificent mausoleum was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. After the death of Mughal Emperor Humayun in the 16th century, his wife Hamida Banu Begam commissioned this tomb. Persian architect Mirak mirza Gayis designed this great musoleum. The last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II took refuge here. He was captured by Captain Hudson, a British leader of irregular light cavalry during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.
