Coronavirus | “NATURE DOESN’T NEED PEOPLE, PEOPLE NEED NATURE”

BY ASHAR KHAN – June 16

Coronavirus disease 2019

Coronavirus disease 2019 – In one of my recent posts, I was telling about the current Coronavirus and its gruesome impact all over the world. I also told about the drastic change this virus would lead in the environment. Although, I am not a futurist yet I happen to witness the impressions of the change it is bringing.

It was a bright sunny day and I was travelling to New Delhi by NH 24. The surroundings could not have been more quiet as I moved outside the city. It was not long on the way as I noticed to my surprise that the road was almost empty except some vehicles moving alongside and their drivers duly masked inside. And even more startling than that was the sight of hundreds of people walking past on the other side of the road. They were moving in small groups randomly scattered upto a far distant sight.

Gradually, I crossed several toll booths with very few vehicles which otherwise would have packed with hundreds of them. Further on the road, I reached the area with those roadside diners on both the sides. I was a little disappointed by the sight that all of them were either closed or had no travellers at all. Even the Big food chains were operating through drive thru only.

Within sometime, I reached the famous ghats of Ganga river and was nonplused to see very less number of people. Almost the whole ghats were empty which otherwise would have remained totally packed with people performing religious rituals.

Nevertheless, more than half of stretch has been covered and didn’t take much time to complete it thoroughly. As I reached the Delhi border, I saw that the road was blocked by the barriers and a couple of cars were crossing the check post one after another. The vehicles were getting inspected for the inter state travel permit. Within the city, the vehicles on the road were in large quantity. Although, all the drivers were masked but the traffic seemed to be like in normal numbers.

I felt astounded as I observed that all the important public places were closed due to coronavirus. Even the shopping hubs like Connaught place had barely any crowd. A bunch of people were standing outside random showrooms while everyone was getting scanned and sanitised before entering inside.

Consequently, I had to admit that it was rather depressing experience to see this sorry condition of everything. These popular places which are flourishing and greatly admired by everyone were deeply impacted by the curse of the nature.

Now in this day and age, I observed that the environment had become very dejected. This gruesome Coronavirus disease 2019 has created a downright chaos all over the world and has impacted the lives of everyone of us. And why it should not be when human activities since last century has greatly impacted the environment. The nature has always been giving warning signs to the us. Activities like deforestation, carbon emission or immoderately embracing the irradiated means of overproduction had indeed taken its toll.

Eventually, when the nature has had enough, retaliated in the form of epidemics, earthquakes or storms etc. So Indeed, these outcomes were certain.

From this time forth, We should be cautious about the activities that we, the humans produce are in accordance with the nature. We must be aware that we are living on this planet along with the flora and fauna and their natural habitat is just as important as ours. We must always keep in mind that we have only this world to live in and must be preserved by all means.
